Isaac Barker
Student President

Hi, I’m Isaac. I study electrical engineering at Griffith and I joined GCS as my orientation week began. It’s a blessing to be part of such a welcoming and Jesus centred community. My favourite part of GCS is watching the friends you make (I actually met my wife at GCS) grow closer towards Jesus as their saviour.

Christine Nuygen
Vice-President

Hi! My name is Christine, and I’m a third-year Dentistry student 🦷🪥. I’ve been part of GCS for three years and hope to continue for many more! One of my favorite things about the ministry is the diversity of students—from different degrees, ages, cultures, and walks with God—yet we are all united by a shared desire to grow in our relationship with Jesus. Through this ministry, I’ve learned the importance of sharing the Gospel with non-believers, as I want others to experience the same joy and peace that God’s grace has poured into my life.

Matthew Dickens
Treasurer

Hi, my name is Matthew and I’m in my second year of engineering. I got involved at GCS during my first year at uni after friends from church recommended it. My favourite part about GCS has been becoming part of a Christian community on campus that supports me in growing in my faith and sharing it with others.

Sophia Seumahu
Secretary

Hello! my name is Sophia Seumahu, and I’m a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student. I recently moved back to the Gold Coast after completing the first half of my degree at UNSW in Sydney, and I have really enjoyed attending the Christian group both at UNSW and now at Griffith. GCS has really grown my passion to spread the gospel, specifically reminding me that Jesus is coming soon, and that people need to hear about Him and be saved! It’s also been a great place to fellowship and be encouraged by other students committed to Christ and to loving God’s Word. I’m so grateful for GCS, and it’s commitment to keep encouraging us to love and share Jesus!

Since joining GCS I have been able to connect with other Christians on campus and also invite mates from my classes to come and hear more about Jesus. God provided the opportunity to read the bible weekly alongside him and one of my friends curious about God’s word. I am excited to be prayerfully dependent on God at Griffith moving into my second year.

Student life can be very busy and a bit daunting, so it’s really refreshing to be a part of a Christian community on campus that loves to encourage, serve and grow each other as well as the wider campus. It’s helped remind me to prioritise Jesus and His mission to spread the gospel during my time at uni.

I enjoy coming to FOCUS because it’s a friendly community for international students, where we can study about Jesus, share our perspectives without judgement, learn English, and make friends!

As an international student, being far from home can be hard but my time with FOCUS GCS has made it worthwhile. While staying rooted, I’ve built a community of loving and supportive individuals. I’ve also grown in my knowledge of God, and my love for His word. Moreover, I have received training in evangelism, leading a study and various other leadership aspects, which pushed me to be more proactive and step our of my comfort zone. I strongly encourage having such community for every student.

IT ALONE

What if uni isn’t just about your degree, but discovering something bigger? You don’t have to figure it out alone. Come join our group, meet other students who are asking the same big questions, explore Jesus together, and find friendships and support that make the journey easier. We’d love to see you get connected and be part of what’s happening.
